A well dressed and groomed woman with a phone in her hand allows people to understand women were a force to be reckoned with. In this case, Genevieve Clark Bain is singlemindely paving the way for women everywhere. You can see her, in 1914, making phone calls for support for this amendment which would be passed in 1920. The strong set of her jaw and the way she looks directly at the photographer helps us understand she would not quit until the law came into being.
